1. A new version of Cocoon launches

We’ve just rolled out a new version of Cocoon that brings enhancements to privacy and productivity features – both core values of Cocoon. In this post we’ll talk about just one feature that combines privacy and productivity.

    Mailslots
With this latest version, we’ve introduced a much improved interface for creating a Mailslot. The purpose of a Mailslot is to allow you to keep your “real” email address private and reserved for the things that really matter to you. You can create a Mailslot email address anytime a website asks for your email address, and keep your real inbox clear of whatever junk they may send you.

Right click in an email field to create an anonymous Mailslot

If you want, you can send a Mailslot email to your main email account, delete individual emails, or delete the address entirely if you’ve gotten everything you needed from that address.

We’ve each found our own favorite use for Mailslots. My favorite is for email newsletters. I get more than I can read each day, and I don’t want them filling up my main inbox. Having to log into another email account to check newsletters is too much hassle, so instead, I give each newsletter it’s own Mailslot. They are then all grouped together and easy for me to find, they don’t clutter my inbox and I can delete the Mailslot entirely if I’ve tired of the newsletter.

Manage non-priority email outside of your "real" inbox with Mailslots

Mailslots protect your privacy giving you an easy way to keep your email address private and help improve productivity by letting you manage non-priority emails more efficiently. Give Mailslots a try and let us know what your favorite aspect of this feature is.

Next post we’ll talk about how Cocoon “Notes” will bring online research to a new level.
